City of Echoes: Point Clouds and Memory Paths
Another project I worked on for the ‘No Bounds’ 2025 festival was in collaboration with other SCII department academic researchers and this consisted of working towards a set brief, surrounding the theme of the festival itself.
At the heart of this particular project is a personal act of digital reconstruction. City of Echoes: Point Clouds and Memory Paths consists of a series of 3D point cloud models from various demolished historical buildings across Sheffield, using them to create a visual expression of the way the city has evolved. These spectral forms emerge throughout the installation as echoes of the city’s built environment, reassembled through memory and data.
I researched various historical buildings in Sheffield that had been demolished over the years and wanted to represent them as 3d models that presented themselves as Pointclouds that I animated using After Effects to show them exploding and disintegrating over time. I did this with 4x buildings, including, the TInsley Towers, Wedding Cake Registry office, Egg Box and the hole in the road. I scanned some 3d printed cooling towers for the Tinsley Towers piece and I used an AI software to generate the other 3d models using photo references of the buildings.
The exhibition got 1000 in person attendances to Castle House, the Igloo and in the Barnsley colleges.
